Letter to the Communidad of Madrid….300 words or less

For reapplication for next year we need to write a 300 words or less about our letter of intent..
rough draft..wrote quickly as tomorrow is the due date…figures! haha

Why I want to stay in Spain…
In a little town of Alcala de Henares there is a bilingual high school called Atenea. Atenea has 3 floors, about 700 students, a gym and a cafeteria, and is what most people would call an average high school on the outside. I cannot explain in words the amount of immense gratitude I have for the individuals that spend their time inside of these walls. Establishing a deep-rooted connection with the teachers here has led to; dining out with new friends, celebrating numerous birthdays, enjoying meals inside the homes with families and it has allowed me to experience my Christmas holiday with a wonderful Spanish family. Living amongst such uplifting and generous people has turned my experience into a mentality, and a way of life. I am thriving in the Spanish culture and trying to absorb as much of it as possible. The once strange faces at Atenea have become a family that I have been so fortunate to become a part of. Introduced into Spanish culture in such a powerful way has only made me fall in love with the people here that much more. I can’t imagine not seeing these people everyday. They have become such an important part of my life.

My desire to pursue Spanish fluency brought me here, and keeps pushing me to learn more. My future career will involve Spanish in some fashion and I want to build a solid foundation while I am here. Living here has been such a humbling and challenging experience and yet it feeds my curiosity all the more.
